Unit 6: Energy! From Food to Forces

  • Lesson 1: Chemical Energy and Food Chain

Food chains and webs show the flow of chemical energy through an ecosystem. From the sun to producers to primary consumers to secondary consumers to tertiary consumers, students learn about the transfer of chemical energy and how producers and consumers depend on each other to survive. They also learn scientists classifiy living things based on groupings of what they eat.
  • Lesson 2: Mechanical Energy

In this lesson, students learn about converting chemical energy from food into motion (aka mechanical energy). Students recongnize that energy is never created or destroyed, but only changes form. Students will also discover mechanical energy through gears, levers, and other things.
