Unit 5: Alive! From Algae to Zooplankton

  • Lesson 1: Alive or Not?

    Scientists classify (sort) things as living or non-living. Students learn how to sort things by whether they are alive, never alive, or dead. They fill out an alive checklist. To be considered alive, something has to meet all the items on the checklist.
  • Lesson 2: Alive and Eating

    All living things have various eating structures to help them find and consume their food. students learn some of the many different ways that consumers eat.
  • Lesson 3: Alive and Breathing

    All living things breathe! Students learn about structures producers and consumers use to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide. they also learn how producers and consumers depend on each other in this exchange.
  • Lesson 4: Alive and Defending

    All living things defend themselves against predators. Students learn structures used for this function
  • Lesson 5: Alive and Growing

    All living things have a life cycle. Students learn to identify different stages of marine life cycles.
