Unit 3: Zoom! From Earth to Habitats

  • Lesson 1: Sort it Out

Scientists sort living and non-living things into different groups based on similar characteristics. There are many different ways to sort things: by color, shape, size, texture, and the list goes on! Earth materials are sorted so they can easily be identified and studied.
  • Lesson 2: Biomes and Ecosystems

Scientists sort Earth into biomes and ecosystems. Students learn to sort different are as of Earth based on both producers and climate. They also learn specific names of different biomes and ecosystems.
  • Lesson 3: Habitats

There are many different habitats within an ecosystem. Students learn how to sort different habitats and what animals need from a habitat. They also learn more about living spaces and producers of three specific marine habitats in hawaii to prepare them to learn about the animals in those habitats.
  • Lesson 4: Scientific Exploration

Scientists observe habitats to find patterns. Students learn monitoring those patterns helps to learn about the plants and animals that live in a habitat. They also learn tools scientists use to make observations more accurate.
